I consider it an amazing blessing that despite having MS I can so much of what I love. Sometimes I will feel fatigue or get dizzy riding a rollercoaster, but those things seem very minor to me.
In terms of my friends and family, I think most people are cautious about asking questions regarding my MS. Generally, most understand that it is a serious disease and I think that creates awkwardness and makes people hesitant to ask questions. It made me aware that I have an opportunity to educate people about the disease.
I love answering questions and helping people understand. I’m lucky that my life is full of love, family, and friends.
What Brings Me Joy?
Spending time with my family is something that brings me joy. Luckily, I work from home so I can always spend time in the mornings helping my kids get ready for school and studying for things like spelling tests.
On the weekends, we enjoy being outside, where we will go on hikes and picnics or toss around a football. We love being silly and making up our own games.
My kids particularly love this one game we created called “Treasure Map.” We’ll hide an item in the house or outside and draw a map to find the hidden treasure.
Taking Time for Us
Cooking is very meaningful to me. To make truly good food, you need a lot of time and you can’t take shortcuts. It’s a nice activity and something I like to model for my kids as they see how it’s important to be organized and to not rush the process.
Food always brings my family together. I love grilling, making homemade pizzas and cooking things in my smoker. While I’m cooking, I also like to reflect and think about life. The last thing on my mind is MS.
